Joint Research Activities With Agreement Partners

For the purpose of deepening the international experience of university employees, Shiga University has implemented an overseas training program for staff members. Beginning in the 2006 academic year, this program has seen selected staff members dispatched overseas on training programs that usually last from 7 to 10 days.

In the 2006 academic year, 2 staff members were dispatched to Australia’s Deakin University, while another 2 staff were sent to Thailand’s Chiang Mai University and Chiang Mai Rajabhat University.

In the 2007 academic year, 2 staff members were dispatched to China’s Dongbei University of Finance and Economics, and Keimyung University in the Republic of Korea. Another 2 staff members were also dispatched to colleges allied to Michigan State University in the United States.

During the 2008 academic year, 4 staff members were dispatched to Deakin University in Australia.

In each of the instances outlined, Shiga University staff members were able to deepen their understanding of university infrastructures, facilities, systems and organizational structures, and operations/services, etc., through observing the operations of agreement partner institutions, and also interacting with staff members of the institutions in question. While employing the outcomes of these experiences within its own operations, in the future, Shiga University hopes to continue actively contributing to exchange and cooperation activities.

Shiga University is the parent institution of Shiga University international(SUi), centering on universities with which it enjoys cooperative exchange agreements, SUi takes an active role in hosting employees of overseas universities who are dispatched to Japan as part of the employee training programs of these institutions.

In the 2006 academic year, SUi hosted an employee of the International Exchanges Office of China’s Dongbei University of Finance and Economics for the period of a week. In the 2007 academic year, SUi hosted a staff member of the International Faculty of Mexico’s University of Guanajuato, for a similar period of time. Also in 2007, SUi hosted an employee training group sent to it by Keimyung University of the Republic of Korea.
