| In Japan, Chiang Mai Rajabhat University is sometimes called “Regional University of Thailand”. CMRU is under the jurisdiction of Thai Ministry of Education and has forty-one campuses throughout Thailand. Although the original goal of CMRU was to develop teachers, it now has faculties of business, humanities, sciences, agriculture, etc. which underscores its regional-oriented character. |

Courses Available |
| Generally, students from Shiga University on ESP can study at any faculty/campus. |

Period |
| It is advisable to start your studies in the first semester of each year (in early June). Students on ESP can study for two semesters (February-June, July-November) maximum. Some students may start the program in the second semester (in late October) depending on the commencement date of scholarships. |

Language Skills |
| Some courses are provided in English. English skills are necessary in daily lives until students learn to speak/understand some Thai. |

Accommodation |
| Dormitories on campus or private housing near the campus are available. |

Living Expenses |
| Prices in Thailand are considerably lower than in Japan except in Bangkok. Prices in Bangkok are similar as in Japan. |

Security |
| Generally, living in Thailand is safer than in other developing countries. However, it is recommended to take due precautions; for example, walking alone late at night should be avoided. |

Other Remarks |
In FY 2004 and in FY 2005, four Shiga University students each year studied at CMRU for six months (two semesters). Students joined the intensive course of Thai language and culture provided at Chiang Mai Rajabhat University about one month prior to the commencement of the semester. The tuition fees for the intensive course were paid individually.
Currently, only undergraduate/graduate students at Faculty of Education can apply for this Exchange Student Program. |
