3 Description
Our exchange partner Michigan State University is located in East Lansing, Michigan, a serene university town endowed with nature where the presence of university is pervading the community. The town is located in a safe area and people are accustomed to accepting international students, allowing you to get used to the living quickly.This program involves a trip to Chicago to see a metropolis, a visit to the State capital Lansing to learn about a political center, an excursion to Niagara to experience North American wild nature, as well as stays with local residents to deepen understanding of American families. These experiences allow students to experience vibrant American culture.
Training at an English Center and other institutions at MSU enables students to develop ability of American English. By learning about a different culture as well as about their own, students will be able to become more international-minded.
From 9:00 a.m. _ 1:00 p.m. each day, courses on English language as well as on American culture are provided at an English Language Center (sixty hours in total). In the afternoon, various on-site activities related to the content of the morning classes (e.g. shopping at a mall, visit to the capital, etc.) as well as self-studies will be planned. On weekend various hands-on activities are provided to learn about American society and culture, such as staying with local residents, a visit to Niagara, a trip to Chicago, etc.
Except on weekends, students are going to stay at the dormitory for MSU graduate students. The participants of this study tour can utilize research/cultural facilities and equipments (e.g. libraries, LL facilities, PCs) as well as sports facilities (e.g. swimming pools, gymnasium, tennis courts, baseball/ softball stadium, bowing alleys, golf courses, etc.)
Credits earned at MSU can be transferred to the credits of SU, e.g. “Overseas Training” credit. For more information on credit transfer program, contact Section of Curriculum and Lesson Affairs (Kyoumugakari) at Faculty of Education or Faculty of Economics, Shiga university, or SUi staff.
4 Cost
Approximately JPY 500,000-600,000 (including round-trip travel expenses, tuition, cost covering most of the meals, cost for study tour, and insurance cost covering the whole course of stay in the US).
